Sample Lesson: Water, Weather, & Climate
Students learn how much water we use daily and that our water comes from lakes. Students discuss how we rely on rainfall to fill these lakes and review the water cycle. They observe the results of an evaporation experiment, started 2 days before the lesson, and discuss the role of oceans in the water cycle. They watch a video to learn about drought in Texas and listen to a recording to learn the difference between weather and climate. They reflect on how droughts affect our water supply and the need to conserve water.

This program rewards teachers with mini-grants deposited directly into your program “bank” as you complete actions within the web application. Earn mini-grants by fulfilling activities like teaching lessons, promoting water conservation at home, and completing the post-program evaluation. At the end of the program, you can instantly cash out the total amount you’ve earned.
Bonus Opportunity! Earn an additional $100 mini-grant for a total of $250 if a student in your class wins the video contest!

How It Works: After teaching the Kit Challenge lesson, you’ll distribute one kit to each student. Then, assign the engaging online kit activities, which guide students and their families on how to use the tools effectively. Completing these activities before installing the products is key to maximizing water savings!

Student Video Contest
Students are encouraged to create a video to teach their peers about what they learned.
Example topics include our water supply, water & climate, water use behaviors, and conserving water. First, second, and third place winners will receive a $100 Amazon gift card. In addition a $100 mini-grant is awarded to the teacher if a student in their class wins!
Student Point Challenge
As students progress through the online portion of the program, they earn points for each action completed and recorded in the web application. At the end of the school year, the three students with the most points win a $100 Amazon gift card!
